Governor Corbett is not funding construction for schools like the state used to. In the old days we had a Governor who was pro-construction of schools, our new Governor has placed a one year moratorium on new projects coming across his desk and as you can see from this story over at Allentown’s Morning Call, some already existing projects are having trouble getting money back from the state.
Pottstown is a really thrifty place. Most of the people here weren’t willing to get too excited by long term loans for construction even if there was a lot of government promise for helping to meet those costs. Maybe looking at the current economic climate it was a good thing!
My only concern is that we’ve put off doing some necessary construction for our schools in the meantime and wooops, now there is a one year moratorium on new construction.
Does that mean we avoided a problem…or we have one?
