Worrying About Racism

I imagine a lot of folks are thinking about racism.  It’s pretty hard to avoid in all the conversations about Trayvon and George.  Personally, I don’t know the entire story, but I’m afraid no matter how much we study what happened, and whose fault it was, and why hoodies scare people- we aren’t going to fix what happened.   I am very sad about that.

The other day I watched a program from the 60’s featuring a class of third graders from Riceville Iowa.  They were taught a lesson in prejudice and while it isn’t going to give anyone who isn’t a minority a true feel for the impediments and the pain of living with racism- it does make a striking difference in the lives of those young children who had Jane Elliot as a teacher.

Here is where you too  can watch the PBS  documentary online.
