Want A Fun Gift For Teens? Buy A Superplexus!

What is a “superplexus”?

Well, it’s a ball with a maze inside and a small metal ball that drives teenagers batty.  My kids found one and they started playing with it and one of my kids took it with her to her college dorm and her friends loved it and then she brought it home and my other kids took to it and didn’t want to give it up when they accidentally allowed the ball to fall off the track and roll around in the bottom of the plastic see through ball.

It’s sort of like a habitrail for kids, but they don’t get in it, they just roll it around in front of their faces and wince.  One of the kids would drop the ball out of the maze and mutter, another wanted to pitch it through my front window, but they decided not to because they wanted just “one more chance”.

You can pick it up at Target, and I’m sure it’s available at other fine retail outlets.  I’m not advertising this, I’m telling the honest truth.  We had the kids playing with it at Thanksgiving and they loved it.

Go find it, it’s about 8 inches in diameter, clear and it appeals to older kids.

Wearing Less and Less Makeup

Maybe it’s getting older that has me less and less interested in smearing my face with pots of paint, or maybe it is that I’m more into health in my old age and despite the promises made by the cosmetic giants- I really don’t think that chemicals and fats improve the quality of my skin. They might improve it from the inside in the form of a healthful diet, but simply smearing the outside of my skin with them seems like an exercise in futility.

So instead I spend time every day  massaging my skin and I have to tell you, I am pleasantly surprised by the results.  I  started it one day when I heard about ear lobes.  Yes, you heard me, ear lobes!  It seems that scientists can tell the people that have circulation issues from the people that don’t by simply looking at their ear lobes. I’m sure it takes trained specialists but  ears are apparently, swell indicators of poor drainage in the venous system.  It seems that if your ears are wrinkled, well, to be blunt, it may not  be a good thing.(PLEASE NOTE:  I am not diagnosing or pretending to diagnose on this site!  I’m just chatting.)

Anyhow, I wondered after I read that about my poor ear lobes. What was their venous condition?  Well, shockingly, they are wrinkled!  But there had to be something I could do to get blood flow back into them.  I had really been ignoring them for years.  I mean, probably just like most of you, at some point in my life, even though I can’t say exactly when it happened, I must have accepted that my ears would rarely be touched unless I was sticking sharp objects through them to adorn myself? When I thought about my poor little wrinkled lobes,  I sort of felt sorry for them.  So I rubbed them, and then I rubbed the cheeks next to them, and then it was onto my chin and then my neck and soon there was a pleasant warm feeling and then later, when I walked past the bathroom mirror, my head was almost glowing.

Glowing skin doesn’t come from a bottle or a jar, it comes from gentle massage and healthy eating and lots of rest.  Again, I’m not diagnosing, I’m talking about my own daily habits.  But remember, I’m one of those massively freckled people, which means I didn’t look that hot with a slathering of creamy beige foundation either.

Thanks for letting me blather again, I’ve almost lost the knack.  Almost, I said!

Wanna See What I Do To Relax?

I know it’s crazy, but I’ve found a cool site that allows me to transcribe old  handwritten texts online so that they are easier to read.  It’s almost shocking to look at some older script and I’m only talking about stuff written in the 1800’s.  You’d think it would be easy to read and transcribe, but it isn’t.  Some letters are really tough to get.

If you are interested in seeing what I’ve been working on check out this site at the University of Iowa.

Oh, a further aside, after transcribing some pages, I’ve got a question about why my author used what she called “moist sugar”?  Anyone have any ideas?  How was sugar made moist?

Vito’s Pizza on High Street!

Remember that Mexican place Maximilliano’s?  It was over on High Street, near Stowe?  Well, unfortunately it closed down a while back, but a new owner has apparently taken the reigns over at the location and it’s now a pizza place called Vito’s!

I haven’t checked it out yet, but you know I’m going to!  If anyone else gets there first, tell us what it’s like.

Mercury’s Holiday Literacy Project!

Sarah over at DIY Frugal, one of the bloggers from the Pottstown community has an excellent post about the program that the Mercury is running until December.  Let me direct you to her to read more about it.

DIY Frugal

I’m not sure why someone would  donate a dollar for every name and email address they get, but since we are constantly leaving our email addresses all over the place, it isn’t as if they are sacrosanct any longer, and I think this seems like a good cause.  So check out the post and if you are able, please consider helping the Mercury with their project this season.

Mo’s Voting Obama!

I’m sure it’s not a surprise for those of you who know me personally to hear that I’m voting for Barack Obama, or as Abby calls him “Bronco  Bama”.  ( Check out the little girl who broke down and cried because she was tired of hearing about the presidential election.)

Four years ago I was one of those people filled with excitement when Obama was elected President, now things are different and I’ll admit that I don’t feel quite so excited by his “Forward” campaign  as I did by his “Hope and Change” theme.  I guess it’s because we’ve gone through a time of financial difficulties for a lot of Americans.  It’s tough hearing about families losing their homes, and about businesses going under.  It was also hard seeing the bickering in Washington about, well, about a lot.  Obama didn’t magically fix everything did he?  But, on the other hand, I like how he handles himself.  I like how he appears to think.  I like that he’s his own man.  I like that  he doesn’t seem pretend.  I like his compassion and I like his determination.  Now I don’t know him personally, I only know what the rest of you know about the man, but I admire him as a human being and for that reason alone, I think I’m confident choosing him as a leader for the next four years.

Mitt says he’s the future of America.  He says America needs jobs and his 5 point plan will put us all back to work so that families can take care of themselves and so that States can make their own decisions.  But I’m frightened by what he calls  his “Day One” changes.  He’s making a lot of promises that aren’t practical.  How are we going to move immediately to his perfect world?  He says he’s got experience running companies and handling budgets in real world time, but he’s been running for office for quite a number of years now, he’s not quite the “small businessman” he presents himself to be.  Mr. Romney may well be a fine man, with a great plan for the future of America, but I’m not ready for his type of future.

I don’t want to vote for a rebuild of America!  I don’t want an America that starts at Romney’s “Day One”.  I want a strong America with a view towards a free, cleaner, healthier, stronger America.  Barack Obama is not able to give that to us…but I think we can continue recovering from a huge economic recession while growing as a strong nation.

Call me naive, I don’t mind.  I really believe in the nation thing.  I don’t think we are a conglomeration of States.  I think we are something special because we are a nation!  I have the feeling President Obama gets that.  I’m voting for him on Tuesday.

How You Doing With The Time Change?

I’m feeling rather fuzzy this evening.  While that may be because it’s a Sunday evening and I was relaxing today, I think it also has something to do with the lack of sunshine, or the change in the amount of it.  I really seem to be influenced by the sun and I’d diagnose myself, if I were a doctor, with Seasonal Affective Disorder.  I mean, I wake up at 2 in the morning wondering “What am I doing awake?!”  And it takes me  hours to fall back into a sound sleep and then I feel drowsy when I finally get up.  I’m chalking that up to confused melatonin levels in my body.

But how are you doing?  It will be nice to have a little more light in the morning, but it isn’t going to last long friends!  So get out into the sunshine every chance you can because we are getting close to hibernation season.

Oh, before you hibernate, make sure you vote!
