Want to Shop Online for the Holidays?

It’s hard to believe it’s that time of year when many of us rush about madly trying to find that special something for those we care for.  A lot of folks are going to stay at home and use the internet to do their shopping and with the free shipping deals that some stores offer, it isn’t a bad deal!

I’m going to mention some of the sites I’m familiar with so that you can  check out deals online and see if you want to buy from home while wearing fuzzy slippers and jammies.

I like to check the following:

slickdeals.net – this site has deals that are “hot deals” and “free deals” and “Black Friday” deals

fatwallet.com- this is a lot like slickdeals, but it often has some additional items.

Dodtracker.com – this is one of those sites that grabs what are called ” deal of the day” items.  It might be something advertised on Amazon, or Pfaltzgraff, or REI

Woot.com – this site is a strict “deal of the day” site.  The prices are slashed, but you have to want what they are offering!

If any of you have favorite online shopping sites, send the information here and we’ll post it for everyone to read.

Also, if you are going to shop online, make sure you google search store promotional codes.  Stores have their own codes that give you percents off and shipping free.  So if it’s available tack it onto your order.

Are You an Early Thanksgiving Shopper?

Stores are pushing shopping for the holidays into Thanksgiving this year.  Stores that will open early for the shopfest are-

Best Buy

J.C Penney’s

Toy’s R Us

Stores that aren’t rushing to open so that their employees can grab some turkey and stuffing are-

Burlington Coat Factory

Hmmm, I’m betting there are more, but these are the stores I found online.

Not News Today!

Have you heard anything about Obama’s reading of the Gettysburg Address?  If not, you are blessed, but if you have and you heard that he left out “under God” well, sit back and take a listen for a few minutes.

There are in fact 5 copies of the Gettysburg address.  There were two that were apparently written and used on the day of the address by Lincoln. Those copies are the Nicolay and the Hay copies.  Those copies aren’t exactly alike, but if you were to read them you’d notice that the words “under God” weren’t there.

Lincoln was asked to neaten the copies up and add his name and some nice margins, and so, there are some more versions that are called the Everett version, the Bancroft version, and the Bliss version.  Guess what these copies have in them?  You guessed it, these have the words “under God” in them.

Ken Burns apparently asked President Obama to read the Nicolay copy.  Therefore no one can say that the President left out the words.  He didn’t.  The copy he read from didn’t have them.

Dratted Age Spots!

Some of you have written to ask about those age spots that I had dabbed with castor oil in the hopes of making them disappear.

Well, while they did go away…they are back!  Probably because I stopped dabbing them with castor oil, so it did in fact work for me, but the results weren’t permanent.

I moaned to my big guy that I was a little disheartened that they were back.  And you know what he said?  He said, ” They aren’t age spots, they are cute spots.”

I don’t think I’m going to spend much more time trying to hide them, but I swear if all of my freckles start to congeal on my face…well, I don’t know what I’ll do.

Sorry About the Ads!

I just want to mention again, that I don’t make any money on anything that I write here.  Honestly I can’t imagine why anyone would want to pay me for writing about what I’m thinking and feeling, but apparently some people can make money out of anything.  Which brings me to the point of this note.

Some of you might find ads on this blog when you visit me.  These ads are not my design.  They are a function of using a free wordpress blog site.  My hope is that I can trust the site to bring family friendly ads instead of ads that might offend.  I sure hope that is the case for you if you see any posted here.

Once again, I do not make any money from this site.  I don’t sell the addresses of those who send me messages.  I have no ulterior motive in publishing this material.  Basically I write what pops into my head and I’m honored to have friends and guests who come to “chew the cud” with me.

If there is something about our community that you’d like me to share, please feel free to send me a message and as long as it’s family friendly I will try to publish it. But remember, this isn’t a job, it’s a hobby, so if I don’t get to something, or I don’t read something you’ll have to understand that I’m not a news service.  I’m a person who likes to type.

Talented Kids!

I’ve got to brag about my daughter who is away at college, you don’t mind do you?

Her school just performed a play called ” All My Sons”.  And my daughter was “Kate” in the show.  Oh my gosh, it was spectacular.  The kids were fabulous.  My daughter’s part was incredibly moving and by the end of the play  I was stunned by the fact that I had just watched her morph into another human being.

The play was by Arthur Miller, and if you’ve read or seen any of his plays you’ll understand why we were a little worried about the tone of the play.  Sure enough, this one draws you in with it’s well drawn nostalgia for the past and then it smacks you in the face with some of the reality of that same period.

As I said, my daughter was Kate who  appears to be a fragile woman obsessed with believing that her son who went missing during the war, is alive!

As the play progresses, you meet their son’s former fiance’, and she’s in love with Kate’s other son.  Kate can’t bear to imagine these two starting a new life together.  Her husband Joe seems a little more sympathetic.  He appears to be the anchor in the family.  He’s a hard worker, he’s built a great business up from the ashes of a business that went down because of a problem with aircraft parts.  His former “partner” was jailed and even Joe was castigated by his neighbors when he got out of jail for being a “murderer” of their boys overseas.

The play was incredible.  I saw my kid go from loving and gently nagging spouse, to an almost harridan like creature who was panicked and petulant, and at last, a strong woman who was fighting with every beat of her heart, to keep her family strong.

All I could do was cry!  It’s a good thing my kids aren’t embarrassed by me!  It’s a very good thing!

Owen J. Roberts “Bull in a China Shop” This Weekend!

Wow, it’s that time already…The kids at Owen J. Roberts are all set to bring another play to local residents!

This time the play is “Bull in a China Shop” by C.B. Gifford.  I can’t tell you a thing about the content of the play, but I can tell you based on prior experience that it is absolutely wonderful to attend these plays and if you haven’t gone yet, you really should try it.

The play is taking place on November 22nd and 23rd at 7:00 pm in the HS auditorium.  The tickets are only five dollars a piece and I believe you can get them at the door, but if you want some let me know.  I’ll make sure you get them.

Good luck to all the players!  I won’t say “break a leg”…cause that seems a little gruesome, but I’m expecting a marvelous show.

See you there.
