I don’t know much about world affairs. I read about and then watched the Foley and Sotloff videos and I found them horrific. I don’t know why people are so wicked. I just don’t get it.
I have to learn a lot more about ISIS, or ISIL, but I get that they are the target of the US. I understand Obama is considering how he can deliver some kind of retribution against them. We are probably going to hear about it this evening.
Even though I’m not quite sure who our enemy is here, I’m trying to find information on what we might be planning on doing. We heard that there are going to be ” no boots on the ground”. We have already heard about drone strikes against them. What more will the US engage in? How will other countries help? What is France doing about aiding us in air strikes?
There are a lot of questions for me, but in one news article I just noticed it said that it could take up to three years to fight ISIS.
You can read what I read right here–
The Obama administration is preparing to carry out a campaign against the ISIL in Iraq and Syria that may take three years to complete, requiring a sustained effort that could last until after President Obama has left office, according to senior administration officials, according to New York Times report.
The first phase, an air campaign with nearly 145 airstrikes in the past month, is already underway to protect ethnic and religious minorities and American diplomatic, intelligence and military personnel, and their facilities, as well as to begin rolling back ISIS gains in northern and western Iraq.
The next phase, which would begin sometime after Iraq forms a more inclusive government, scheduled this week, is expected to involve an intensified effort to train, advise or equip the Iraqi military, Kurdish fighters and possibly members of Sunni tribes.
According to the report, the final, toughest and most politically controversial phase of the operation — destroying the rebel army in its sanctuary inside Syria — might not be completed until the next administration. Indeed, some Pentagon planners envision a military campaign lasting at least 36 months.
